Connecting to the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø VPN with Apple iOS (iPhone, iPad)

This guide explains how to connect to the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Virtual Private Network (VPN) which gives access to a variety of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø services and resources from outside of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø.

Before you start...

  • You must be aware of and abide by the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Computing Regulations
  • You must be aware of and abide by the
  • You need your Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø user ID & password – found on the front of your registration slip
  • An internet connection outside the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø network e.g. from home

Important notice

When connected to the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø VPN service, ALL your traffic will be sent through the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø network, regardless of whether the destination is a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø address or an address on the Internet.

Instructions

  1. Go to the App Store

  2. Search for "Cisco AnyConnect" and install by clicking GET or cloud icon

  3. Open Cisco AnyConnect

  4. Choose your "AnyConnect" Would Like to Send You Notifications preference

  5. Click Connections from the menu then Add VPN Connection...

  6. At the Add VPN Connection window, enter the details as below:

    Description: You can call this what you like (we've chosen Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø VPN for this guide)
    Server Address: vpn.ucl.ac.uk
    Advanced: Click Advanced and go to the next step

  7. Make sure Network Roaming is disabled (as pictured below)

  8. Go back and click Save
  9. Click Allow at the "AnyConnect" Would Like to Add VPN Configurations notification

  10. If prompted, enter your iPad/iPhone passcode to Add VPN Configurations

  11. When the connection is Enabled (a tick will display next to the connection), click the AnyConnect VPN switch

  12. At the Authentication window, enter the details as below and click Connect

    Group: RemoteAccess
    Username:ÌýYour Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø userID@ucl.ac.uk
    Password: your Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø password

    The Remote Access VPN now uses Multi Factor Authentication (MFA), this provides additional security and means you won’t have to enter your credentials every time you log in.Ìý

  13. When successfully connected to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's VPN, a VPN icon will appear in the top-right corner.

  14. To disconnect from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's VPN, click the AnyConnect VPN switch to the off position.
