20th annual Queen Square Symposium 2019

The 20th annual Queen Square Symposium took place on Friday May 29th 2019 in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute of Education.

Over 50 students showcased their exciting research projects in the fields ofÌýÌýclinical neuroscience,Ìýcognitive and behavioural neuroscience, imaging,Ìýelectrophysiology as well as molecular neuroscience.Ìý

  • The winner of theÌýmolecular and clinical research posters was MSc studentÌýZhen-Yi Andy Ou, the runner up from that session was Laura Riggall,Ìýcurrently in her secondÌýyearÌýof PhD.
  • The winner from the cognitive and imaging posters was PhD student Noor Sajid, the runner up was MSc student Timothée Maniquet.

Professor Gill Bates kicked off the morning session with a keynote speech on "Insights into the pathogenesis of Huntington's Disease",Ìýin the afternoon Professor Michael HauserÌýdelivered a fascinating talk aboutÌý"All-optical closed-loop manipulation of neural circuits in vivo".

The lunch break was followed by a presentation andÌýdiscussion about science editing led by twoÌýeditors from Nature Human Behaviour. Finally, the day was rounded off withÌýProfessor Mary Reilly speaking aboutÌýÌý"Inherited neurological disease: treatment approaches".

The day was punctuated by talks from MSc and PhD students including Annefloor Carels,ÌýLeen Hashem,ÌýJuliana Sporrer,ÌýEmily Todd, Ana Ponciano, Jose Leon Rojas,ÌýDavid Zhang,Ìýand Chen Zhongbo.

The Symposium was a great success and provided a fantastic opportunity for Queen Square students to showcase their research. We would like to extend our gratitude to Proteintech, World Precision Instruments, Vector Laboratories andÌýMagVenture for their sponsorship.
