Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø BERN is a cross-faculty research network established to coordinate and promote interdisciplinary research into all aspects of the building envelope, and collaboration between Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø researchers and other established groups.Ìý

Our role

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø BERN’s external engagement role is to coordinate our extensive technical knowledge of the building envelope into a coherent and comprehensive research programme that will:Ìý

  • promote interdisciplinary research into all aspects of the building envelope
  • promote collaboration between Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø researchers, and with researchers in other UK universities and established stakeholder groups
  • help respond to the needs of Governement and the building industry.

Our vision is to enable, connect, engage and inspire people living andÌýworking in all types of buildings; in particular, those working on improvementsÌýtoÌýthe building envelope.

What is theÌýbuilding envelope?


The building envelope (i.e. a building’s ground or basement floors, external walls, roofs, windows and external doors) defines the boundaries between interior and exterior, and interfaces with other buildings.Ìý
