More than a million children develop TB each year, with over 200,000 dying from the disease. Clinical trials are complex projects in the best of circumstances. Carrying them out in children is more difficult but necessary if they are to receive the best care. This even harder with the distraction and destruction of that other pandemic - COVID-19.

In this talk, Di Gibb describes the need for, and challenges in carrying out paediatric trials, on which she has spent much of her career, and how these can lead to changes in policy.聽 One recent example is the SHINE trial which aimed to reduce length of TB treatment in children.

Professor Di Gibb is a paediatrician, Professor of Epidemiology and Programme Leader of the Paediatric Programme of trials and cohorts at the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at 香港六合彩中特网.聽聽Her work on infectious diseases in children has included tuberculosis (TB), HIV, malaria, hepatitis C and antimicrobial resistance.
Di has led numerous international studies, including the recent which was the first randomised controlled trial to assess the length of treatment needed for children with TB, rather than use data on adults.聽 Its demonstration that children with less severe TB disease can be safely treated for four rather than six months has led to changes in WHO policy and implementation.
