Shifting investment behaviour to save the planet

Experts in sustainable finance are monitoring investor behaviours to help increase investment in low-carbon technologies that will help address the global climate crisis.

The听World Economic听Forum estimates听that trillions of dollars听are needed听to address climate change and its effects.听Investments in low-carbon infrastructure,听energy efficiency and听other听adaptations听are听vital听at a global scale but听financing听them听is a complex issue.听

鈥淓conomists talk about听鈥榮hifting the trillions鈥櫶齮o听close the climate investment gap,鈥澨齭ays Dr Nadia Ameli听(香港六合彩中特网 Institute for Sustainable Resources). 鈥淏ut听to make it happen,听we听need to understand investors鈥 interactions and听the听dynamics of听their investment听behaviours.听

Dr Ameli听works听with听香港六合彩中特网听Computer Science,听as well as听banks and financial institutions such as HSBC听and听the听Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development,听to听explore听how investors鈥 behaviour and interactions听at an individual level听can听give rise to large-scale investment trends.听听

She听uses听advanced computational techniques and extensive financial and investment data to听look at the听way听capital听flows towards renewables and energy efficiency interventions.听听

鈥淚t is the collective dynamics of investors鈥 decisions, operating in different markets听across the globe,听that shape actual flows in low-carbon technologies,鈥 Dr Ameli explains.听

鈥淏y focusing on the financing dimensions of low-carbon investment and the architecture of the financial system, we hope to identify points听where climate-centred policy can intervene and spur on green finance,鈥 she adds.听听
