The Deaton Review: Inequalities in the UK 鈥 how can we build a more equal and inclusive society?

Inequalities have been growing in the UK and other parts of the world, fuelling a rise in populism and sparking protests.听

鈥淲e听see inequalities not just听in terms of wealth, but听also听by gender,听health,听ethnicity, geography and education.听We听don鈥檛 know what鈥檚 driving them, but some of these inequalities are about long term changes in society.鈥澨齟xplains Professor听Sir听Richard Blundell听(香港六合彩中特网 Economics).听听

A five-year review, commissioned by the Institute for Fiscal Studies听(IFS), funded by the Nuffield听and chaired by Nobel Laureate听and听economist听Professor听Sir Angus Deaton,听will build a comprehensive and coherent picture of which inequalities matter to people and why, what causes them and what听we听can do about them.听

Professor Blundell听and听香港六合彩中特网听colleagues听Professor Imran听Rasul,听Professor听Orazio Attanasio听and听Visiting听Professor听Paul Johnson, Director of the IFS,听join other听world-leading experts in sociology, epidemiology, political science, philosophy and economics听on听a听panel听that听is听overseeing听the project.听听

The review听aims to understand听and report on the inequality听of income,听but also of health,听gender,听place and听political听participation.听A large听team of experts will听look at听a听range of policy听areas听from taxes and benefits to trade policy, education, the labour market, competition and regulation.听听听

鈥淭his review will听look closely at a听wide听range of inequalities that affect people. We will听draw on听expertise from across the social sciences,听to听piece together what is going on,听and provide recommendations for policy changes to ensure everyone is better off听in future,鈥澨齭ays Professor Blundell.听听
