Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø/Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍøH Urology and Radiology Team deliver MRI Masterclass to Urologists from around the country

The Urology and Radiology teams at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø&Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍøH, led by Professor Mark Emberton, have been at the forefront of research into multi-parametric Prostate MRI, which has been one of the most important advances in prostate cancer diagnosis over the last decade. This knowledge and learning was disseminated to Urologists from around the country in an interactive 2-day MRI Masterclass for Urologists led by Mr Veeru Kasivisvanathan, Mrs Caroline Moore and Professor Mark Emberton. This course helps attendees adopt an image-guided diagnostic and treatment pathway for their patients.

Participants were given their own MacBook Pro Computers, with real prostate MRI scans loaded onto them and were given the opportunity to look through scans themselves under the supervision of expert radiologists Dr Clare Allen, Dr Alex Kirkham and Dr Shonit Punwani. Candidates were given a baseline test and were re-tested at the end of the course to look for improvement in their ability to interpret the MRI. It was shown objectively that the course improved participants ability to do this. [1]

ThisÌýcourse, the first of its kind designed specifically for Urologists, was delivered with the assistance of the Teaching Managers, Finance Department and CPD team of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Division of Surgery and Interventional Sciences. Due to the success of the course, the European Association of Urology have commissioned the course as a method of teaching these skills to Urologists from across Europe. Due to excellent feedback, this course will be running annually.
