On 13 July, the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Council voted to approve the integration of SSEES with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Faculty of Arts and Humanities, following the recommendation of the Academic Board at its meeting on 5 July.  The integration for which the school has planned and prepared over the last twelve months will take effect from 1 September 2023.  SSEES Director, Prof Diane P. Koenker notes: "It marks a new chapter in the storied history of SSEES, and it will provide the benefits of belonging to a welcoming Faculty within Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø while protecting our unique identity as a centre of language-based and interdisciplinary area studies.  I want to thank everyone who participated in the discussions and helped to shape the Memorandum of Understanding and this outcome.   There will be more work ahead to implement these changes and adapt to new relationships, and I know that incoming Director Richard Mole and Dean Stella Bruzzi can count on your support."

Stella Bruzzi, Dean of the Faculty, comments: 'Further to Academic Board and the subsequent vote from Council approving the integration of SSEES into Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Arts & Humanities, I am very much looking forward to welcoming SSEES into the Faculty from 1st September where we will fully support the School in its academic endeavours in interdisciplinarity and Area Studies. My thanks to all colleagues in SSEES for your contributions and patience throughout the process and I look forward to working alongside you in the future.'
