Pioneers in Higher Education

In 1826, a university education was limited to the very few. You had to be male, a member of the established church, and independently wealthy. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s founders wanted to do things differently. Inspired by the ideas of philosopher Jeremy Bentham, we were the first English university to champion inclusivity, diversity and open mindedness – accepting students based on academic ability rather than background.
