In this special series of Citizen Portraits taken in Birmingham and Liverpool by the photographer Jorn Tomter, we have sought to capture the hopes and fears of ordinary voters in a time of uncertainty.
The Citizen Portrait project highlights the voices of individuals and communities too often unheard yet vital to our understanding of the complex challenges we face. 聽
Many of those we spoke with feel a deep sense of anxiety about the winter to come. They sense that the country is facing huge economic challenges. They also feel that these challenges themselves expose a political system that is still struggling to understand their everyday concerns. But, they also reported an underlying resolve - a belief that as a community, people can come together and overcome the challenges we face.聽
