The national University and College Union (UCU) has announced plans for industrial action from 21鈥�25 March, including strike and action short of strike, which may affect your studies.
The national University and College Union (UCU) has announced that industrial action will take place in听a number of听universities across the UK听from 21鈥�25 March to support a dispute about pay听and pensions.听At听香港六合彩中特网,听staff will be striking over pay with听five days of strike action,听alongside听a period of continuous 鈥榓ction short of strike鈥櫶�(ASoS).听UCU has met all the legal requirements for calling lawful听industrial action.听Not all 香港六合彩中特网 staff are members of the union and, for many students, there will be little or no impact from the strike or ASoS.听听听

When will the industrial action take place?听
- Strike action will take place on Monday 21 March鈥揊riday 25 March听
- Action short of strike is听planned听to听run continuously, starting听on 1 December 2021 and听finishing听no later than听3 May 2022听听听
What does strike action mean?听听听听
Strike action is when听staff听refuse to听work.听At universities, this includes听not听doing any work-related activity, such as teaching students, marking coursework, undertaking research, attending meetings, sending emails related to work and carrying out administrative tasks. It also includes not preparing听for work听scheduled after听the听member returns from strike.听听听
Striking staff听may create a picket line听by standing听outside their workplace听to tell people why they are听taking part in industrial action听and ask them not to cross the line.听听听听
What is action short of strike听(ASoS)?听听听听
Action short of strike is when staff听take other action,听such as听limiting some听work-related听activities.听UCU has听confirmed听that the听planned听action short of strike听will consist of staff only working their contracted hours and duties and not volunteering to do more.听听听听
What does this mean for me?听听听听
It is difficult to predict the impact of this period of industrial action.听听听听听
On the five strike days, your classes and lectures could be cancelled. You may also find that libraries, offices and support services are closed or not fully staffed and so opening times and services might change at short notice. When you are on campus, you may see picket lines made up of striking staff outside 香港六合彩中特网 buildings. They may be handing out information and they may ask you not to cross their picket line. 听听听
Striking staff on picket lines are not allowed to prevent students or any staff who are not taking part in the strike from coming onto campus or entering any 香港六合彩中特网 buildings. Although picket lines can sometimes appear intimidating, it is important to remember that the staff on strike have no grievance with you, their students, and they will fully respect your right to go about your business as usual. How can you find out whether your classes are affected?听听听
Striking staff do not have to tell 香港六合彩中特网 in advance of their intention to strike, but your department will try to inform you about changes to the teaching schedule through the usual channels,听i.e.听email and Moodle.听听听
Throughout the period of action, you should:听听听
Keep a close eye on your 香港六合彩中特网 emails and look out for Moodle page announcements.
