Following the review and publication of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s new Retention Schedule, the Library has recently published updated webpages related to data retention.

The Retention Schedule was reviewed and revised as part of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s GDPR preparedness programme, and this was published in the summer of 2021. The Retention Schedule sets out how long documents should be retained based on legal or regulatory obligations, business needs, or industry standards. For documents that include identifiable personal data, it also helps Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø to comply with Data Protection Legislation.

The retention schedule applies to physical and digital documents. Teams should regularly review the information that is held on personal and shared drives to ensure the timely destruction of information that is duplicated or has become obsolete.

The new web pages include some frequently asked questions that should help teams to identify which information does not need to be retained.

The new web pages can be accessed via this link.
