Key messages for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø launched

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø has launched a set of key messages, delivered through a

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø key messages ucl.ac.uk/cam/messages">messaging website with resources.

The development of these messages is one of the objectives of Enabler F in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø 2034, which states that we must 'develop a clear set of messages about the history, values, performance and distinctiveness of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, ensuring that staff and students have confidence in these messages and are able to communicate them effectively'.

The messages are intended to support all staff to talk consistently about Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, enabling us to build our reputation and profile among our key audiences. This in turn helps us to recruit the very best staff and students and compete effectively for funding and the strongest partnerships.

The six messages are based on the six principal themes of 2034. They have been developed into a communications package by the Communications & Marketing office, working in consultation with communications staff across Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, notably with faculty and vice-provosts' offices.

The messages are:

1. Since 1826, we have championed independent thought by attracting and nurturing the world's best minds.

2. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø students are directly involved in research, equipping them for the future and inspiring a lifelong curiosity.

3. We combine our strength across all areas of research to tackle the most pressing challenges of the 21st century.

4. Inclusivity and engaging with the community is at the heart of all we do.

5. Our position in London brings unique benefits, enabling us to contribute to everything that makes it the world's greatest city.

6. We are global: through our outlook, people and enduring international partnerships.

Following presentation to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's senior management team in 2015, the messages have now been turned into a website supported by images, case studies, and keywords to help staff to use the messages effectively in their communications.

All of the supporting materials demonstrate how Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø is embodying each of the six messages.

The case studies will enable staff to talk about Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's activities in each area, and the images have been made downloadable for use online, in print or in presentations.The case studies and images are dynamic resources and we will be developing them over time to reflect our activities.

There is also a downloadable Powerpoint presentation covering key facts about Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø and about all six messages for staff to download and use in their presentations.

The messages are part of a range of resources offered by Communications & Marketing, all designed to ensure that Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø communications are high-quality, consistent and inspiring. These range from guidelines on the use of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø visual identity through to toolkits offering support on different aspects of communications
