International Women's Day 2015 events

To mark International Women's Day (IWD) on 8 March 2015 Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø will be hosting a programme of events across campus.

International Women’s Day logo

IWD is a time to celebrate the achievements of women around the world, whilst recognising the challenges still faced by many. The United Nations has chosen "Equality for women is progress for all" as this year's theme - focusing on how gender equality, empowerment of women, women's full enjoyment of human rights and the eradication of poverty are essential to economic and social development.

Risk and Power in Maternal Health

Friday, 27 February - 4:30pm - 7:00pm
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Anthropology is pleased to host a seminar providing alternative perspectives to maternal health, addressing why the cross-cultural application of biomedical models continue to fail some women.

The ground-breaking documentary play Seven, portraying women's rights activists from around the world, will be read by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's most senior men, including the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Provost.

Film: Honor Diaries

Tuesday, 3 March - 6:30pm to 8:30pm
The Honor Diaries features nine courageous activists speaking out about gender inequality, forced marriage, the right to education and female genital mutilation. Followed by a panel discussion with Professor Sarah Creighton (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍøH), Dr Richard Horton (The Lancet), and Naana Otoo-Oyortey OBE (FORWARD).

Let's Talk About Sex Ed! Panel Discussion & ConsentÌýWorkshops

Debate: Does egg-freezing enable women 'to have it all'?

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute for Women's Health's Ethics Unit invites you to a public debate on the science and social effects of egg-freezing, including the role of employers in sponsoring women to freeze their eggs.
