Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø University Challenge team fall at the final hurdle

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's University Challenge team were narrowly beaten by the University of Manchester in the final of the popular BBC2 quiz show this week.

Despite a strong comeback towards the end of the final, the team eventually lost by 140 points to 190.Ìý

To get here, the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø team defeated 5 teams, including the University of Exeter, Bangor University, New College Oxford, University of Manchester and Jesus College Oxford.Ìý

The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø team consists of Simon Dennis (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Science & Technology Studies), Tom Parton (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Mathematical & Physical Sciences), Tom Tyzczuk Smith (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Biosciences) and Adam Papaphilippopoulos (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Philosophy).

In recent years, University of Manchester have made a significant impact on the competition, with the last seven teams reaching at least the semi-final stage. They also went on to lift the trophy in 2006, 2009 and 2012. Manchester's win means that the have now won the title four times in the past eight years, while also making them only the second team to retain their title.Ìý

Talking about his experiences of the show, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø team member Adam Papaphilippopoulos, said: "From recording right through to reactions on Twitter, it has been a somewhat bizarre but entertaining and rewarding experience. I can't say that I expected what started out as a bit of fun would garner so much attention."
