A team of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø postgraduate students are blogging live from the Cheltenham Science Festival, which runs 7-12 June, covering Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø talks on the uses of plasma, the science of cannabis and a live brain scan, among others.

Dr Andrea Sella

The students are:

  • Kathy Aitchison (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute of Child Health)
  • James Heather (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Medicine)
  • Jenny Love (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Energy Institute)
  • Andrea Pochylova (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø School of Slavonic & East European Studies)
  • Frances-Catherine Quevenco (|Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Science & Technology Studies)
  • Claire Skipper (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Chemistry)
  • Laura Vale (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Speech, Hearing & Phonetic Sciences)

The festival is co-directed for the sixth consecutive year by Dr Mark Lythgoe, Director of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging.

Dr Lythgoe said: "We now get 40,000 visitors and it's a total sell-out. It's the Glastonbury of Science - people come to have fun and learn something. The key to this success is rock-solid speakers, who are wonderful communicators, and our advisory board - a group of 12 artists, engineers, scientists, who have been the eyes and ears of the festival since the start.

"This year, we've grouped all the events into a series of themes - beautiful, entertaining, intriguing, inspiring, controversial and compelling. There is also a new interactive area for called Area 42, which will showcase unseen new technology and what we call 'undercover science'."
