This week the spotlight is on Hameera Saeed, Manager of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Union Rights and Advice & Jobshop.
What is your role and what does it involve?
I give
legal advice, manage a team of advisors and the Jobshop assistant. I have to
ensure that the advice we give is up-to-date and in line with the law and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø regulations.
I work closely with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Registry and Academic Services, Careers and the International Office.
How long have you been at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø and what was your previous role?
I came to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø six years ago and before that I was with the Citizens Advice Bureau as an advisor. The advice we gave there was more general concerning benefits and employment.
What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?
Becoming Manager of Rights and Advice: developing the service and making big changes such as taking over the batch visa system from the International Office, recruiting and training new staff, and introducing new procedures relating to student Jobshop contracts.
What is your life like outside Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø?
I'm really interested in alternative healthcare, especially aromatherapy.
