Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø will host its annual Engineering Doctorate Fair for Urban Sustainability & Resilience on 24 February.
Through the fair, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering department invests about £100,000 in each of eight projects thanks to funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
The invitation-only event, which takes place from 4pm to 7pm at Wilkins South Cloisters, is open to industrial sponsors and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø staff.
Companies such as AECOM, Battle McCarthy, Expedition Engineering, Halcrow, Laing O'Rourke, Ramboll, and Transport for London all attended in 2009 and are now working in collaboration with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø on projects worth a total of £1.2 million.
An EngD is an enhanced PhD that invests in a company's research and development. Companies design a project in collaboration with a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø expert and sponsor a high-achieving student to complete the research over four years.
Battle McCarthy, a leading sustainable engineering and landscape company, won five of the projects in 2009.
Founder Christopher McCarthy said Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø was uniquely placed in a dynamic city with world-renowned academics and facilities to help bring about change for a more sustainable future.
He added: "People have a natural ability to cope with change in this fast-paced, multicultural and theatrical city where no drama is too big. One day we celebrated winning the Olympic bid for 2010; the next we were responding to terrorist attacks.
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø has a great capacity for change, leaping to fourth place from 34th in the Times Higher Education-QS World Rankings in just five years. We want to be part of that change."
If your company is interested in attending the event please email Karen Rafferty.
