On 14 December 2010,ÌýÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's newest scholarship recipients attended the annual scholarship awards reception to celebrate their achievement with fellow students, sponsors and academics.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø scholarships recognise exceptional academic achievement and, as well as Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø itself, many organisations and individual benefactors invest in scholarship schemes for both undergraduates and graduate students every year.

Professor Michael Worton, Vice-Provost (Academic & International) and Chair of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Scholarships Board described the event as "one of the highlights of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's calendar".

  • Andrei Iovu: Joint Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø/OSI (Open Society Institute) Chevening Scholarship
  • Natalie Ohana-Eavry: Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Graduate Research Scholarship and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Overseas Research Scholarship
  • Guido van Meersbergen: Graduate Research Scholarship
  • Reetuparna Sarkar: Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Graduate Research Scholarship and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Overseas Research Scholarship

There were 134 scholarship recipients and their guests in attendance at the event, along with ambassadors and High Commissioners from some of the 45 countries represented by the scholars and representatives from some of the funding organisations - including Santander, the Africa Educational Trust and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, and senior academic and administrative Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø staff.

At Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø a wide range of scholarships are available to students, awarded primarily on the basis of excellence in academic achievement. Scholarships at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø are also supported by many different sources, which apart from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø itself include: the British government; foreign governments; the UK Research Council; industry, trusts and foundations; and the generosity of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's alumni and friends.
