On Monday 17 November, Professor Malcolm Grant, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø President and Provost, welcomed to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Madam Liu Yandong, the State Councillor of the People's Republic of China. Madam Liu oversees education, culture and science and technology in China.
She was accompanied by a large delegation that included the Chinese Ambassador to London, Madam Fu Ying; the Minister for Education for China, Mr Zhou Ji; the Vice-Minister for Science and Technology, Mr Li Xueyong; the President of Tsinghua University, Dr Gu Binglin and the Chairman of the Council of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Madam Ma Dexiu.
After an overall introduction to research at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø by Professor David Price (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Pro Provost, Research), and presentations on Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's world-leading expertise in nanoscience and nanotechnology, given by Professor Andrew Fisher (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Physics & Astronomy) and Professor Steve Caddick (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Chemistry), the delegation toured laboratories in the London Centre of Nanotechnology at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Chemistry.
The visit was arranged by Professor Zheng-Xiao Guo (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Chemistry), Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's Pro Provost for China.
