CHINA | CHINA: Perceptions & Reflections

An exhibition exploring the traditions and culture of China, curated by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø MA Museum Studies students, opens today at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø.

'CHINA | CHINA: Perceptions & Reflections' will display the artwork, discoveries and thoughts of Chinese and international artists, photographers, archaeologists and missionaries with the aim of investigating China's past, present and future from an international perspective.

The exhibition is organised along four themes:
•ÌýÌý Ìý'Discovery' considers China's sphere of influence, exploration and invention; and its interaction with the outside world
•ÌýÌý Ìý'Expression' explores Chinese art and culture
•ÌýÌý Ìý'Changing Landscapes' looks at the environment and landscape of China Ìý
•ÌýÌý Ìý'Body and Spirit' focuses on the people of China and the factors that shape them.Ìý

Highlights include a wooden 'ancestor tablet' accompanied by Chinese 'hell money', a 1930s 'Shanghai Lady' poster and a jade axe head.

CHINA | CHINA is being organised in association with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute of Archaeology and will showcase objects from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Collections and Museums.

The exhibition is partnered and sponsored by China Now, the UK's largest ever festival of Chinese culture. The curating team was awarded a grant of £2,000 by Norton Rose LLP, the international legal practice, as part of the festival.

CHINA | CHINA is housed in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's North Cloisters, Wilkins Building, and will run until 14 May 2009. Entry is free and the exhibition is open from 9am-6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø is hosting a number of events in 2008 in conjunction with China Now - a nationwide festival of Chinese culture - to celebrate and promote Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's strong relationship with China. Find out more here.
