An informal 'English Tea Party' for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø scholars from North America was held in the Wilkins Garden Room on 6 June 2008, hosted by Professor Jan Atkinson, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Pro-Provost for North America.

Twenty-five graduates from Mexico, the USA and Canada, all holding current scholarship support from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, also met Art Wasserman, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Vice-President and Director of Development & Corporate Communications, and Dr Andrew Pink, from the Office of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Vice-Provost (Academic & International).

English hospitality was expressed in perfect cucumber and smoked salmon sandwiches and 'cream tea' scones, served together with tea, coffee, wine and finger food.

There were enthusiastic PowerPoint and poster presentations on topics from a number of volunteers, ranging from 'Images of Death in Colonial Mexico' (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø History of Art) to the 'Nucleation of Zeolites' (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Chemistry) and two excellent short presentations from students on their experience in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø.

Students told how they appreciated expert research mentoring, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's encouragement of interdisciplinary research and the advantages of life in metropolitan London. A common theme was that any initiatives to increase international scholarships would be welcome, and that our current North American graduate students would be happy to act as ambassadors for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø in the wider world.
