Description
This module explores how we interact with the phenomenon pain as humans, clinicians and scientists. Although pain is universal, we begin by reevaluating the complexity and subjectivity inherent to any pain experience and explore how that impacts our shared language for describing that experience. This is developed by exploring how culture impacts how we experience pain and whether minority groups have a different pain experience. Then from subjectivity we turn to objectivity as we explore EBM and clinical research as routes to understanding pain. Finally, bringing all themes together we ask how we can meet the challenge of the National Pain Audit and design services that truly meet the needs of people living with pain.
