Description
This library-based research project for 3rd year MSci Cell Biology students will require you to write an in-depth dissertation in the area of either cell or developmental biology under the supervision of a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø academic. The dissertation will aim to address or answer a particular question in your chosen field. Topics will be in developmental biology or cell biology. The provisional title/subject and the supervisor must be approved by the module organizer at the start of Term 1.
Your supervisor is likely to be in either the Research Department of Cell and Developmental Biology (CDB) or the Laboratory of Molecular Cell Biology (LMCB). Project titles are negotiable with supervisors. Students may consider other members of the Division of Biosciences, the Faculty of Life Sciences, or elsewhere in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, as project supervisors but this will require approval by the CELL0006 module organizer. Information about supervisors in CDB and their fields of research is available on the departmental webpages, and about potential supervisors in the LMCB on the MRC LMCB webpages. Individual project supervisors may require that a particular module has been studied previously and passed at a satisfactory level. They may also specify that a current module is undertaken to complement or support the project.
Completing the project will provide you with in-depth knowledge of a chosen subject area. You will conduct an independent literature search and your dissertation will summarize the relevant published experimental evidence, critically appraise that evidence and reach an independent conclusion.Ìý You will give a short oral presentation to a small group of students and examiners after the main exam period.
