Description
Aims:
The module gives students experience in undertaking and completing a large project in software systems engineering encompassing the full software development lifecycle, applying techniques learned throughout the programme, including the technical skills of analysis, design and implementation.
Intended learning outcomes:
On successful completion of the module, a student will be able to:
- Understand the nature of large, complex software systems and how that nature varies according to the context in which a system is situated.
- Work in a team to develop software engineering solutions that address stakeholders' needs.
- Plan, coordinate and manage software systems engineering projects under tight deadlines.
- Understand and coordinate competing interests from different stakeholders.
Indicative content:
There is no set syllabus. Groups of students will be given a project area in conjunction with a Project Supervisor who is a member of the academic staff. The supervisor provides support and guidance. The project runs full-time from immediately after the examination period (May/June) onwards, with the students responsible for organising themselves and their work with advice from their supervisor. Students are expected to meet with their supervisor on a regular basis, as agreed with the supervisor.
Requisites:
To be eligible to select this module, a student must be registered on a programme and year of study for which it is a formally available.
