Description
In this module you will apply the skills and concepts you have covered during the taught modules of the Clinical Trials program to carry out an independent research project supervised by a staff member from the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology. You may choose a project from a list of offered topics, or you may propose your own project topic subject to approval. You will plan the project and submit a proposal, conduct comprehensive research involving a literature review, and develop academic writing skills by writing up the findings from the project in journal format. You will also learn how to communicate your findings effectively to different audiences by presenting your work during the course of the module.
At the end of this module you will be able to:
- Design and develop a research project.
- Effectively manage a research project applying both project and time management skills.
- Perform an effective literature review in the relevant area.
- Analyse and evaluate findings from your research.
- Write up and present findings clearly and concisely.
- Summarise key findings from your research and place it in context of the relevant field of clinical trial research.
This module is compulsory for students on the MSc Clinical Trials and the MSc Statistics for Clinical Trails.
You will meet with you supervisor to discuss your ideas, but most of the work will be carried out independently in the form of literature review, independent project work, preparing an oral presentation, writing the dissertation and optional fieldwork in some cases.
