Description
This module will cover practically applicable theories of individual and group decision-making with a strong emphasis on experiential learning. Students will learn about the rational decision-making model and why it usually does not work. Then, they will engage in numerous experiential learning exercises that are designed to demonstrate the heuristics and biases that people rely on to help them make quick decisions. Students will experience first-hand that their decisions are often ill-informed and lead to failure. Next, they will learn how factors such as emotions, awareness, uncertainty, risks, creativity and ethics affect their decision-making as well as how to improve their decision-making. The last third of the module will focus on decision-making in groups. Group processes can lead to catastrophic decision making failures and learning how to avoid them will be key in this section of the module.
