Description

This course explores the linkages between international trade policy and climate change. We assess climate-dimensions of different treaty frameworks in the trade regime - such as the World Trade Organisation, Free Trade Agreements, and Investment Treaties – as well as other parts of the trade policy toolbox. The lectures introduce core trade policy issues and legal disciplines, and the weekly seminars draw out the relevance of trade policy for the climate challenge through case studies and exercises. This provides students (i) an ability to assess core legal and political economy dimensions of trade policy in general; and, more specifically, (ii) an ability to identify and critically evaluate the importance of trade policy for climate change and climate policy.Ìý
