Description
The module will cover open economy macroeconomics with applications to the Euro Area crisis and Eastern Europe. The first half of the module will start with a refresher on the Mundell-Fleming model, discuss central banks operations, and theories of the determinants and stability of the exchange rate. The module will also cover theories of speculative attacks.
The second part of the module will cover policy issues in emerging markets. The module will discuss how emerging market economies should respond to volatile cross-border capital flows as well as describe the impact of the global crisis on Emerging Europe (within and outside of the Euro Area) and explain adjustment programs.
Finally, the module will present the evolution of the international monetary system (IMS), international policy coordination, and 鈥渞ules of the road鈥 for a stable IMS.
