Description
This module introduces students to the international politics of the Eurasia. The aim of the module is to critically assess the security, international relations, history and politics of the actors within this region, focusing specifically on Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Central Asian Republics and the states of the South Caucasus. In addition, it will consider a number of themes that impact on the whole region. It will also examine the relevance of this region to European security, the changing global order and a number of contemporary global security issues and debates. The course thus cover debates over the identity of Eurasia two decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union; Russian foreign policy and Russia’s relations with the region; the politics and security of Ukraine and Belarus, the Caucasus and Central Asia. It also addresses several thematic questions, namely the role of international actors in the region, conflicts and other security dynamics, energy disputes, regional integration mechanisms and the future role of the region in global politics.
