Description
This module provides detailed knowledge of female anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology during the life course of a women from in-utero development of the reproductive tract, the anatomy of the female reproductive system, hormones, puberty and the menstrual cycle, and disorders of sexual development, to menstrual problems, the lower urinary tract and pelvic floor, and menopause. It covers the basic science that underpins the clinical diagnosis and treatment of reproductive health issues covered in the IFWH0008 Reproductive Health module and includes discussion of social and global issues in female pathophysiology.
After taking this module you should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of:
- The anatomy and developmental biology of female reproductive organs;
- Normal female reproductive physiology;
- Female reproductive disorders;
- Social and global issues in female pathophysiology.
The module comprises lectures, tutorials, discussion sessions on social and global issues in female pathophysiology, and a scientific journal club. There may be opportunities for a dissection room practical and an interactive session on histology and histopathology of the reproductive tract.Ìý
