Summary
This module will equip you with the skills you will need as a doctor to confidently read medical literature and practice Evidence Based Medicine. The aim is not to teach you how to perform advanced statistical analysis but to ensure you can use papers to answer clinical questions when you are deciding how best to manage and treat patients.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
1) You will develop the skills to be able to assess the strength of evidence that any particular study provides to answer questions.
2) You will understand the differences between primary (eg. original randomised controlled data) and secondary (eg. Cochrane systematic review) sources of evidence.
3) We will build on your understanding of key design characteristics, and the interpretation, of the main types research.
4) You will gain knowledge of the tools available to approach critical appraisal.

This is a core module for the iBSc Paediatrics and Child Health.
