The module takes a theoretical and critical approach to five key issues in contemporary English education: multimodality and new literacies; the literary canon and the teaching of literature; issues of gender, identity and diversity; the teaching of writing (including the teaching or not of ‘grammar’); culture outside the classroom (culture, texts, social practices); creativity; and notions of communicative repertoire and how they relate to English teaching in the classroom. Over the course of the module, tutors will begin the process of introducing participants to the university library and its role in supporting study at Master’s level.ÌýÌý
