Description
The module aims to provide understanding of the steps required to advance a preliminary bioprocess design study. It sequentially provides support to address project planning, facility layout, hazard and operability studies and process economics scenarios for a biological medicine. This module focuses on how to take a process from a paper design to fully-operational facility by placing the bioprocess design within a commercial context. Input from experts in the supply and regulatory industry ensures that the design fits with current industrial design standards.
Upon completion of the course, a student should be able to:
- Assess the economic and process feasibility of bioprocess designs
- Design a facility layout for a target biological product
- Evaluate different process designs for safety and environmental impact
- Identify the combination of disciplines necessary for the successful completion of a project
- Determine the most likely project schedule and assess its sensitivity to external and internal factors
