Description

Module Content

This module provides training in the use of digital media and provides students with an introduction to quality documentary filmmaking. The module will develop the students’ critical skills of film analysis through the practical application and experience of creating a short film and manipulating digital media and equipment to that end. The module responds to the growing wish among Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø students to use digital media as a tool in research. This module contributes to students’ intellectual formation by opening new ways of reading and understanding visual ethnographies achieved through a practical appreciation of the craft of documentary.

Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire:

  • The technical skills needed to complete a video project to a high production standard using digital video cameras and editing software.
  • Practical, analytical and intellectual skills in using moving image and sound recording equipment and begin to understand how new technologies create new methodologies.
  • An introductory level insight to the representational capacity of digital video.

One 2 hour and one 3 hour seminar per week.
