Catatonia is an important neuropsychiatric disorder that was described in print in 1868 by Karl Kahlbaum.ÌýIt is a psychiatric emergency and requires prompt recognition and treatment.

is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Training Fellow and a specialty registrar in psychiatry. He is conducting research as part of a PhD examining catatonia.
is Director of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute of Mental Health. He is an honorary consultant neuropsychiatrist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. His research interests are wide-ranging, including schizophrenia, neuropsychiatry, medically unexplained syndromes and neuroimaging.
