Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Special Collections holds extensive archives relating to the history of genetics at University College London.
A number of these archives have been digitised as part of a project funded by the Wellcome Trust to make archives relating to the history of genetics research freely available online. More information about the can be found on their website.
- Galton Papers
Papers and correspondence, 1612-1926, ofÌýSir Francis Galton, consisting of papers relating to the personal history of Galton and his family, 1612-1926 (Ref: 1-116); papers relating to Galton's scientific work, 1850-1922 (Ref: 117-188); correspondence, 1765-1923 (Ref: 189-345).
The papers were deposited in University College London by Galton's executors soon after his death in 1911. They were added to by gifts from his nephew, Edward Galton Wheler-Galton, and from other members of the family. Purchases were made from sale rooms and private owners byÌýKarl PearsonÌýand other members of the Galton Laboratory during the following thirty years.

Correspondence and papers, 1933-1964, of John Burdon Sanderson Haldane (1892-1964), Professor of Genetics, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø 1933-1937, and of Biometry, 1937-1957. Includes correspondence with publishers, scientific correspondence, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø departmental files, personal files.
Some parts of the collection are closed pending review. There are other Haldane papers in the National Library of Scotland.

Correspondence and papers ofÌýLionel Sharples PenroseÌý(1898-1972), Galton Professor of Eugenics, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø 1943-1963, and of Human Genetics 1963-1965. The collection includes papers relating to theÌýPeckoverÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýPenroseÌýfamilies, and papers relating to theÌýKennedy-Galton Centre for Mental Deficiency Research and DiagnosisÌýsetup by Penrose at Harperbury Hospital, Hertfordshire in 1965. The whole collection covers the years 1806-1974.
