Biography

Glasgow merchant, partner in Guthrie and Ryburn of Grenada, Leitch and Smith of Glasgow (q.v.), and James Finlay/Finlay Hodgson (q.v.) until 1836. Trustee for Robert Mackay & Co. Son of David Ryburn of Campbelton, brother of Thomas Ryburn of Jamaica.

  1. Will of John Ryburn merchant of Glasgow Lanarkshire proved 03/01/1845. Among several legacies usually of 拢200 each to Glasgow charities and institutions, he bequeathed 拢100 to the Merchants House. His trustees were his nephews John and Thomas McCunn of Greenock and Robert McCunn of Glasgow. He left 拢10,000 to Margaret McCunn [their sister], only daughter of the late Thomas McCunn of Greenock and Mary Ryburn. His residuary heirs are his four nephews - John, Thomas, Robert and Archibald McCunn.
