Son of Richard James the younger and his wife Ann nee Haughton.

Buried in St Catherine, 20/01/1740. Haughton James of St Catherine, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1741. Slave-ownership at probate: 179 of whom 97 were listed as male and 82 as female. 68 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢6680.88 Jamaican currency of which 拢4072 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢0 currency cash, 拢287.35 currency debts and 拢122.02 currency plate.
