Biography

Son of William Dawkins of Jamaica (d. 1694). Married Elizabeth Masters. His father received 1,775 acres in land patents between 1669 and 1682: "After he was killed fighting against the French invaders in 1694, his estate descended to his son Richard." Richard received patents for a further 1,300 acres in Clarendon.

Member of Assembly for Clarendon 1679, 1688, 1693.

Richard Dawkins of Clarendon, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1700. Slave-ownership at probate: 143 of whom 75 were listed as male and 68 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢6659.68 Jamaican currency of which 拢2754 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢928.74 currency cash, 拢0 currency debts and 拢186.4 currency plate.
