Biography

Widow of Hon. James Bruce (q.v.).

  1. Will of Keturah Bruce widow [of Hatton Garden] St Andrew proved 03/02/1775. In the will she left out of the 拢5000 currency that her son Alexander Bruce had left to her (later also described as a judgement) 拢500 each to her grandsons James Conrade Bruce and Berwick Bruce, the sons of her son Joseph Osborne Bruce, and 拢200 to another grandson Samuel Laroque Bruce. She also left 'my negro woman named Chloe and her issue' to James Conrade Bruce. She left to her grand-daughter Keturah Shepherd Bruce all her debt and claim on the estate and 'negroes' of Sarah Cogan and five named enslaved people of her [the testatrix's] own. She left 拢4000 of the 拢5000 to her daughter Elizabeth Straker, who was her residuary heir. The will identified her brother as John French or Ffrench.
