1. Will of Josiah Webbe of Stoney Hill Nevis proved 01/12/1767. Under the will he left £500 to a 'free mulatto man' George New [?] 'sometimes called George Freeman' then resident in Bridgewater Somerset; and £100 to John Freeman, another free mulatto man. He left £1000 to his sister Mary Fenton and £500 to his sister Frances Lowman. He left £10,400 in monetary legacies to half a dozen nieces and nephews, and £40 p.a. currency to a 'free negro woman' Hagar Chapman. He left his property on Nevis including enslaved people, owned both sole by himself and jointly with his brother George Webbe to his nephew George Webbe the younger, son of his deceased brother Joseph Webbe. In a codicil he revoked the monetary bequest to his nephew George Lowman and replaced it with land he had recently bought on Nevis 'of John Latoysonere' [sic] and 30 enslaved people and £1000.
