Resident slave-owner in Jamaica, dying there in 1778. His estate, which was heavily indebted to Robert Dunmore & Co., was left in the hands of Dr John Paterson as guardian to Alexander Findlater's daughter Mary Rebecca Findlater and subsequently in 1784 bought at an agreed value of 拢17,500 by Robert Dunmore & Co. against debt of 拢25,000 (the 'stocking' was sold separately for 拢5119). The case was subject to the suit of Rebecca Findlater v Robert Dunmore & Co. in 1810.
Alexander Findlater of Westmoreland, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1781. Slave-ownership at probate: 114 of whom 64 were listed as male and 50 as female. 15 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢10755.75 Jamaican currency of which 拢8531.5 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢0 currency cash, 拢290 currency debts and 拢0 currency plate.
