MP for Devizes 1788-1818, husband of Sarah Gilbert, daughter of Nathaniel Gilbert of Antigua, and brother of Thomas Smith of New Norfolk Street (q.v.). His wife had been left 拢1200 under the will of her father but the couple do not appear to have owned enslaved people.
