Mary Gibb was the sister of Margaret Gibb (q.v.). Born in Jamaica c. 1795. Her sister Margaret had eight children with the planter James Brock (q.v.), owner of Industry plantation in St Ann. James died in 1829 and bequeathed Industry to Margaret and her children. Margaret moved to Denny in Stirlingshire, birthplace of James Brock, with her children and Mary Gibb.

In the 1841 census Mary Gibb was living with her niece Helen Russell nee Brock in Denny, age 30, with Helen's husband William Russell, their children, Helen's younger brother James Brock (q.v.) and younger sister Margaret Brock (q.v.). She remained with Helen's family until her death in 1878 at the purported age of 86 years. Her death certificate gave her parents names as Robert Gibb, planter, and Sydney Gibb MS Anderson.

Sydney Gibbes or Gibb, free Woman aged 35 Years was baptised in Trelawny, Jamaica, 11/12/1813 on the same day as Caroline Gibb, free mulatto daughter to said Sydney and Robert Gibb, a white man, age 20 years and 6 months. Also on the same day was baptised Edward Anderson a free quadroon, born November 1811 and baptised 11/12/1813, son to Mary Campbell a free mulatto and Adam Anderson a white man. Sydney Gibb, a free mulatto age 3 years was baptised in Trelawny 15/11/1816.
