Biography

Partner with Robert Milligan (q.v.). Father of William, Robert, Samuel and Francis Henry Mitchell (each of whom q.v.).

  1. Will of David Mitchell merchant of London proved 24/12/1804. The will identifies his partner as Robert Milligan and William Mitchell and James Mitchell of Jamaica as his brothers. He left 拢500 to his wife Ann Hewitt Mitchell, and the whole of the rest of his estate (including a plantation and enslaved people in Clarendon Jamaica, which might have been Mears, of which he was shown as owner in 1795) in trust to support an annuity of 拢1200 p.a. for his wife, to be reduced to 拢600 p.a. if she were to remarry, with the remainder of his estate for the benefit of his eleven children. In a codicil he noted his purchase of an estate in Carshalton Surrey England from John Hodgson Durand.
