Biography

Absentee slave-owner in British Guianan, co-owner with his sister Mara Elizabeth Alleyne Martin of the Niewu-Orange Nassau estate in Demerara. The estate, which has not yet been traced in the compensation records, formed part of the case of Martin v Martin in 1831.

  1. Will of John Lespinasse of West Drayton Middlesex [made in 1803] proved 27/08/1807. Under the will he left his property to his wife Editera [?], subject to 拢100 p.a. for his daughter Jane until 21 and 拢200 p.a. to her thereafter. In the event of Jane's death, the property was to pass to John Lespinasse's sister Maria Elizabeth Alleyne Martin, wife of Anthony [Crosbie] Martin.

  2. Administration of the will was granted to Jane Lespinasse in 1848. She died in 1863 of 33 Ampthill Square Hampstead Road, leaving 拢4000.
