In Jamaica as an attorney and executor in the 1820s and 1830s, but of Clifton when he died in the later 1840s. His will indicates that he had accumulated substantial personalty despite having no slave-ownership traced to date, with monetary legacies of £53,500 and an annuity of £600 p.a. to his wife.

1. Will of Lachlan McBayne of Clifton Gloucestershire [made in 1846] proved 20/04/1848. He left his wife Eliza Mary McBayne £3500 consols held in his name but her property, as well as their house at Clifton for life and an annuity of £600 p.a.; he left a further annuity of £40 p.a. to his sister Anne McBayne of Edinburgh. He left a group of trustees (all themselves recognisably 'West Indians') £10,000 for each of his two sons Evan Forbes McBayne and Francis John McBayne and £6000 for each of his five daughters Agnes, Frances, Eliza, Anna and Jane. In a codicil of 1847 he replaced the legacy to his daughter Eliza with a settlement of £6000 on her marriage with Richard Kinkead.
