David Hancock has compiled a list of plantations which were owned by Sir Alexander Grant using the Deed Books, Old Series in the Island Record Office. Charlemont was acquired between 1752-63, it comprised of 903 acres and 137 enslaved people were attached to the property. The estate was purchased for 拢5,000, the price having been converted from Jamaica island currency to English pounds by the author.
