Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws Visiting Fellows (Faculty-funded) 

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws offers two funded visiting research positions to outstanding researchers wishing to deepen their relationship with the Faculty. The Faculty offers support of up to £15,000 annually towards travel and accommodation expenses across the two positions, for research visits of 1-3 months. Funds are allocated based on reasonable budget, need, and ensuring fair opportunity across the two positions.

• Distinguished Visiting Fellows will be senior researchers with an established international reputation in their areas of research specialisation
• Early Career Visiting Fellows will be junior researchers with recognised as rising stars in their areas of research specialisation

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws Visiting Fellows are expected to contribute to the Faculty’s research and teaching activities, that is, to engage with the activities of relevant Research Centres/Groups, to participate in Faculty research seminars and events, and—so far as possible—to offer guest teaching and to meet with postgraduate research students. To this end, visits during the first (Autumn) and second (Spring) terms are strongly preferred.

Fellowships are advertised annually on . Applicants will be advised of the timing of outcomes at the point of application. The Faculty particularly encourages applications from researchers currently underrepresented in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s academic, research and teaching workforce. These include: people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; disabled people; LGBTQ+ people; and women, as well as scholars working at institutions in the Global South.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws Visiting and Affiliate Academics (self-funded)

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws welcomes applications from self-funded researchers wishing to engage with the Faculty for a period of time.

• Visiting Academics visit the Faculty for one to three months (no fees)
• Affiliate Academics visit the Faculty from three to twelve months (fees levied by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø pro rata)

Both Visiting and Affiliate Academic schemes are open to persons normally holding established academic posts at overseas HEIs, or occasionally to non-academic visitors (eg members of the judiciary or legal practitioners or those working in industry undertaking research projects).

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws Visiting Academics and Affiliates are expected to contribute to the Faculty’s research and teaching activities, that is, to engage with the activities of relevant Research Centres/Groups, to participate in Faculty research seminars and events, and—so far as possible—to offer guest teaching and to meet with postgraduate research students in areas of mutual specialisation. To this end, visits that include the first (Autumn) or second (Spring) terms are preferred.

Applications may be submitted at any time during the academic year, but at least three months in advance of the start date of the planned visit, and must be supported by a Faculty academic staff member acting as ‘Academic Host’. Faculty members submit on behalf of intending visitors/affiliates. (Application forms on Laws Intranet.)

Please note that PhD researchers wishing to visit Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws are not eligible to apply to these schemes—they should instead apply through Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s (fee-paying) Visiting Research Student Scheme, which has a centralised application process.
